"Recently I was asked about my homebirth and more
specifically about Jules Johnstun as a midwife. After going on for
more than a half an hour I thought maybe I was sounding like
Shakespeare's "How do I love thee, let me count the ways...." Jules
was an absolutely wonderful midwife! I highly recommend her.
Throughout the entire pregnancy, labor, delivery, postpartum and
beyond, she has been kind, compassionate, gentle, professional, and
all around great. The birth of my baby was everything I wanted it to
be. I would have a hundred deliveries with my midwife, Jules
Johnstun, if it didn't mean a hundred children . Hiring
Jules was the best decision I made about my birth." ~Angela
"I just wanted to thank you for all of your support
and help during Emily's birth. Your support made all the difference
in the world. My memory of labor is fuzzy, but I remember you being
there and helping me through every contraction, and it was so
wonderful to share that experience with you!" ~Erin
"I chose Jules to be my midwife for my third birth,
but first homebirth, because of her passion and enthusiasm for
birth, birthing women & their families. She knows her stuff
cold, and at the same time is a warm and caring professional. I had
been acquainted with Jules before my pregnancy because we are both
birth junkies, and it was an added bonus for me that my midwife also
be my friend. I received excellent care from Jules, and she didn't
even take it personally when I yelled at her during the birth of my
son, Leo! She has such respect, awe and reverence for the whole
birthing process; such an asset at any birth. Thanks,
Jules!" Adrianna Costello, CBE, CLC
"Thank You! for being our attendant and helping
make our dream come true! You were very professional, positive, and
refreshing to have in our home! What an amazing
experience!!" ~Jolene
"How many doctors can you say you are truly sad to never
see again? Well, for me that is how I feel about Jules. I have had
her with both my successful pregnancies and my miscarriage. She has
been such a blessing in my life, I am sure glad we found her. I was
20 when I was pregnant with my first child and Jules really helped
me through not only physically taking care of the child growing in
me, but also my emotional growth. My first who was a girl was a
surprise/honeymoon child! She was there to encourage me when I felt
unsure about myself, and was there to have a shoulder to cry on. It
was a beautiful 24hour birth that I have such fond memories of.
Jules brought lots of laughter and care to my home. My husband who
was weary of homebirth now is a huge believer in it. The second
pregnancy was planned. When I was 9 weeks pregnant, I spotted. I
called Jules' and told her I wanted an ultrasound, sadly enough it
showed that the baby had stopped growing. Jules gave me the hard
truth to expect a miscarriage within the next few days. She called
through out it and made sure I was doing ok. Jules prepared me for
the highs and lows I would feel from it. She gave me an ok, after
about 2 months to try again if I was ready. I waited another 8
months before I tried again. I found out with my third a day after my due date from the
previous pregnancy. I was so excited, and nervous. Jules really
encouraged me that it would be ok. This pregnancy went amazingly
well! Jules helped me to get on a healthy diet, and take care of
myself better than how I did with my daughter. My daughter loved
Jules so much. She was always excited when she would come. I wish
every woman could have such a rewarding pregnancy with thier doctors
as I did. For those of you who are looking into a midwife, I hope
that you can have the opportunity to get to know Jules and have her
as your midwife. Thanks for Everything Jules!" ~Fallon
"I don't take for granted Atticus's great health. I know the care I
received during my pregnancy played such a huge part it may affect
him for the rest of his life. Now, I realize that pregnancy is a big
event for each mother, but really an uncomplicated process. This is
the care I was looking for, and something you demonstrated
throughout my pregnancy. When our original midwife was not able
to care for us, we were devastated. We had searched for a midwife
months before even trying to become pregnant, and a year later
finally pregnant, we found ourselves without a midwife. We called
every midwife we found in the phone book. I remember distinctly
coming across your website late one night. After hours on the
computer searching, you were the only midwife I was motivated to
email. I spoke with you on the phone for a REALLY long time. You
handled my many questions exceptionally well. When I hung up the
phone with you I was really excited about you. Within minutes of
meeting you, I felt at ease. I became convinced no one would do a
better job. The difference between you and everyone else seemed to
be sincerity and your desire for knowledge. I remain impressed by
this aspect of you.
I will forever remain grateful for you
loading us up with information. At every appointment we bombarded
you with questions and even the same ones over and over. You were
always so kind to answer them as if it were the first time we asked.
You listened to us in spite of us being excited over talkative first
time mothers. Thank you for being so kind. I really appreciate you telling me that I
needed to buck up and get moving around. I knew I needed this but I
was scared about how I was going to handle the contractions off of
the floor. I required someone telling me we just needed to do it and
to give me options of how I could handle the contractions. It was
during this time I learned to just give in to the labor and it made
all of the difference. Jules, I'll never be able to thank you
enough for the support you gave to us during my pregnancy, birth,
and postpartum. You were a source of abundant information which
helped us in making informed decisions. We were constantly surprised
by all of the extras you offered throughout the experience. We can't
wait until we will be able to begin another journey with
you." ~Amanda
"Jules was attentive and thorough during all of my pre-natal
visits. She spent at least an hour with me at each appointment and
made sure my questions and concerns were all addressed. She was also
very approachable and reachable if something came up in between
visits. My home birth with Jules and Tiffany was unbelievable. The
mood was calm and relaxed and I felt like I had complete control in
my environment, unlike my first birth at a hospital. Jules and
Tiffany coached and supported me through each contraction, applying
back pressure and using co-moaning. I loved being in the water
during my labor; it was very soothing to me. Jules reassured me and
made me believe in my strength and my body's natural ability to
birth my baby. I came to have an absolute trust in her knowledge and
competence. Through all of her nurturing and kindness, Jules became
more than a mid-wife to me...she became my sister in
childbirth. ~Lisa
